Are you an indie designer or budding tech editor? Looking to up your game with more professional color charts? This class will teach you how. Designed for those new to Illustrator, you’ll get comfortable with the Illustrator workspace and terminology—artboards, tools, controls, panels—while learning two ways to create color charts. Class will cover creating custom color swatches; using fill and stroke options; duplicating, scaling, rotating and reflecting; using layers and artboards to organize your work; adding text; and exporting charts for production. For knitting or needlework, this class will give you the skills to make beautiful colored charts.

Materials

Laptop with Adobe Illustrator loaded and charged battery, pencil and paper for taking notes.

Homework

Class demos will be on Adobe Illustrator CC 2018. Students must have Adobe Illustrator CS 6 or later (Mac or PC) loaded on their laptop. You can download a free 30-day trial of Illustrator, or subscribe to a CC plan for as little as 20.99/month. If you are subscribing to CC, make sure you have activated your membership & downloaded the app before coming to class.

You must be familiar with your laptop. Work through the pre-class homework to familiarize yourself with the Illustrator workspace and terminology.

Required homework exercises will be sent upon class registration.
